HEAVYWEIGHTS WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN KING KABVINA CUP THIS YEAR

King Msaiwale, the sponsor of King Kabvina trophy who is also owns Champion stadium which is located at Mponera in Dowa district has confirmed that all teams who are participating in a country's league will this year not be allowed to take part in his competition.

Speaking in an interview Kabvina said. "We have discussed with Central Region Football Association (CRFA) and Southern Region Football Association and they have agreed that big team are expected not to participate in the competition this year. He said the aim of the trophy is to discover hidden talents in our locations.

Kabvina said. "we have a lot of talented boys in our villages who can play at national and international level as well but they are denied a chance". So King Kabvina trophy it's main aim is to rise football from grassroots and expose talent which is there in villages. Last year already exposed team like Wanderers reserve, Bullets reserve and Kamuzu Barracks reserve and many others took part in the competition. And Mighty Mukuru Wanderers reserve won the trophy.

Teams like Wanderers reserve, Big Bullets reserve and KB reserve have an added advantage to lift the trophy because there teams are financially stable for the are well sponsored than the other team Kabvina said. On top of that most of there players are already exposed at a national level so this definitely act against our wish to expose talent.

Big teams are competing in a country's champions league this year organized by Football Association of Malawi. The league will help them to fully get prepared for elite league as the league will be competitive enough comparing to King Kabvina trophy.

This season 40 teams have shown interest to take part in King Kabvina Cup. The opening ceremony will be held at Champion Stadium in Dowa on 20 April.
