FIFA COMMENTED ON THE RUMORS OF THE INTRODUCTION OF THE BLUE CARD

FIFA has today issued an official statement regarding yesterday’s information about the introduction of a blue card in football. According to FIFA, it is premature to talk about this.

FIFA wishes to clarify that reports of so called blue card, “at elite levels of football are incorrect and premature. Any such trials, if implemented should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at lower levels, a position that FIFA intends to reiterate when this agenda item is discussed at IFAB AGM on 2 March”

To recap, it was reported yesterday about the possibility of introducing a blue card in football, which would be given for tactical fouls and disputes with the referee. A player receiving two such cards would be sent off the field for 10 minutes. Blue card will be used to force the player off the playing field for ten minutes if he commits a foul that prevents an attack deemed dangerous or if a player protests a lot to a referee.

Rules surrounding the issuing of cards I football have remained the same since 1970, although recent reports have suggested that could change in future. So FIFA has officially denied this rumors, it is therefore wish to clarify that reports circulated yesterday are not true.

Sports analysis commented on the introduction of blue card that “Some players might commit a foul just to get a blue card and finish off their involvement in the game, around the 85 minutes mark by the time the 10 minutes is up. The game would have finished by then. I can see a lot of problems and complaints from fans and managers” Paul Trivett concluded.

Managers and football fans have condemned the so called blur card. And if FIFA will go on with their ideas, the change will face more resistance and criticism.
