AIRTEL SAID NOTHING ON CONTRACT RENEWAL
The managing Director for the company, Charles Kamoto, said this at the Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre during the award presentation ceremony. He said they came only for awards and not for contract renewal.
"We have been talking to FAM about the new deal, I will not say much but I will be able to say it on another day since today we are here because of Maule. The time will come and we will tell you if we will still have the Airtel Top 8 but what I can say is that we are motivated." Said Kamoto.
The 2023 edition was delayed because of the violent acts in the match between Silver Strikers and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers. Where the Nomads were not happy with the referees decision of awarding Sliver Strikers a goal when he already whistled for a handball foul. Wanderers disagreed with Nkhakanangas decision who was in charge of the game. Lali Luban boys abandoned the match and we then saw their supporters vandalizing seats at the Bingu National Stadium.
Wanderers later on boycotted the second leg which was supposed to take place at their home pitch Kamuzu Stadium. This delayed the cup as a result the final was played this year January not in December 2023 as planned. Some experts said FAM is likely to lose the contract this year due to this behavior.
The new contract with Airtel signed with FAM expired in December 2023. They have sponsored the tournament for 6 years.
Keep it up great job
