AFRICA CUP OF NATION 2023 QUARTER-FINAL MATCHES KICK-OFF TODAY

The quarter-finals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023 will kick-off today evening at 7pm as The Super Eagles, Nigeria will play against Angola at famous Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny stadium in Abidjan.

 Angola who are regarded as the underdogs has so far portrayed an impressive and shocking performance in the tournament.  Football fans elsewhere are hoping to see Angola to continue with their amazing play against the tournament’s favorite, Nigeria.

The Super Eagles stars Ademola Lookman, Victor Osmhen, and Alex Iwobi are all fit to battle in an opening match with men of the moment Gelson Dala, Gilberto and Mabululu the Angola’s pillars who provided huge excitement in the round of 16 matches. Gelson Dala has so far scored four goes and Mabululu has scored three, whereas Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, has netted two goals.

The quarter finals of this year has blessed us with some shocks as other tournaments favorites didn’t make it to quarter finals. Senegal the defending champions, Morocco, Egypt and Ghana are out of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Côte d'lvoire 2023.

Later at 10pm DR Congo will face Guinea at Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan. Guineans are yet to test a defeat in a competition match against DRC. Congo have never beaten Guinea in a competition. Mohamed Bayo of Guinea scored against Cameroon and he also scored against Equatorial Guinea on 90+ in knockout stage for them to reach the quarter final. Congo knocked seven-time champions, Egypt out of the Africa Cup of Nations with an 8-7 win on post-match penalties to book space in the quarter finals.

The other encounter will be on Saturday where Mali will take on the hosts, Cotê d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake and Cape Verde will play against South Africa at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.Afcon23

BULLETS AND WANDERERS LEGENDS FORMS A COMMITTEE

The Blantyre based rivals, Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers legends have established a welfare committee aimed at looking after the welfare of former players. The legends have come up with this development to support each by looking at how former football players are striving during their retirement. Kelvin Moyo has been given a role to chair the interim committee. Moyo said the primary objective is to provide assistance and support to former players who may be facing challenges post-retirement. He said the sad story of Flames legend Jack African Chamangwa's painful death has inspired formation of the committee to help former players The press briefing have at the end excites football lovers upon hearing that the committee have arranged a big match between Bullets and Wanderers legends on 4 March 2024 at Kamuzu Stadium as one way of raising the funds.
